“Commerce 3.0: A Springboard for Turkey’s Small Businesses to the Global Economy” launched on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014. The latest report in the Commerce 3.0 portfolio, this paper illustrates how Turkish firms use eBay and PayPal as their platforms for connecting with customers in as many as 175 countries. This research revealed a wide variety of interesting data points, including that fact that innovations in technology and the Internet create a more global marketplace – but not without barriers. This report outlines some of the trade impediments that are particularly relevant for small business owners in Turkey.
Some of the key findings from “Commerce 3.0: A Springboard for Turkey’s Small Businesses to the Global Economy” include:
- 84 percent of the Turkish firms using PayPal sell to customers in foreign markets
- Clothes, shoes and accessories were the three top selling product categories for Turkish eBay firms in 2013
- Newcomers account for 26 percent of all exporters made through eBay by Turkish firms and 33 percent of all PayPal transactions
- The largest 5 percent of Turkish eBay and PayPal firms account for 34 percent and 39 percent of exports, respectively
- eBay firms serve customers from 77 of Turkey’s 81 regions; PayPal users are located in 72 of all 81 Turkish provinces
