Recently eBay India and the India Department of Post (India-Post) inked a logistics contract to ship eBay’s ecommerce shipments via its wide network. The 60-year-old postal giant has linked up with eBay to deliver a diverse range of goods across towns and cities. The department of post deploys its vast network of about 460,000 employees across 155,000 post offices to take goods to customers in remote areas, often hundreds of kilometers from the nearest town.

After nearly three years of ground work, and working with a range of Indian Postal Service officials from top to bottom, GR India created a joint task force team. This partnership with Department of Post led to a meeting between the Head of eBay India Latif Nathani and the Indian IT and Communications Minister Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, which resulted in the signing of this agreement.  With the ecommerce space in India growing at 67% annually, the biggest areas of opportunity are rural and semi-urban. "The vast network of our postal services are being used for delivery of ecommerce goods, which has led to an enormous increase in our parcel revenue," said Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad which showcases the impetus ecommerce is getting from the newly elected Modi Government.

eBay is proud to be an official partner with India-Post.
