On Friday, Senator Kelly Ayotte wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, requesting that he allow the Senate Finance Committee to consider and amend the Marketplace Fairness Act (MFA) before it is brought to the floor for a vote. In February, proponents of MFA successfully convinced Leader McConnell to allow a Senate vote on the measure “sometime this year”. Senator Ayotte – a vocal critic of the MFA – argues in her letter that Members of the Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over the bill, should have the opportunity to fully vet and amend the controversial bill before it gets an up or down vote on the Senate floor. In other words, the bill should follow the regular order process without any special treatment. Read the full letter here.
