On behalf of the entire eBay Government Relations team I’d like to wish you a happy Small Business Saturday. Small US businesses are the backbone of our economy and eBay is – and has always been – a proud supporter of small businesses, both on “main street” and online. In fact, we created the Small Business Ambassador Network to highlight the success stories of small eBay sellers and further reinforce their importance to lawmakers in the US and across the globe in all of our major markets.
In 2016 we focused on a variety of issues of importance to small US businesses, which included our continued resistance to a harmful Internet sales tax law, the push to enable greater trade across borders and a focus on maintaining a healthy postal system both at home and abroad. Many of these same issues will continue to be discussed in 2017 and we look forward to working with the new President and Congress to protect and promote the interests of all US small businesses. Also of note is that our Public Policy Lab team will be releasing a new report in early 2017 that shows how small businesses on eBay continue to grow at a rate that outpaces the US economy as a whole, so be on the lookout for that report coming to our Main Street Policy Paper page soon.
Last and certainly not least, when you’re shopping this holiday season we encourage you to “shop small” and make all of your holiday purchases from a great small business. Check out eBay’s shop small business page for great gift ideas.
Once again – happy Small Business Saturday!
