U.S. Congressman Jim Matheson (D-Utah) and his Chief of Staff, Meg Joseph, met last week with eBay’s Vice President of Customer Service, Scott Murray, and the Draper, Utah, executive team. Murray presented a detailed overview of how eBay is growing and changing, both globally and in Utah. The Congressman was especially interested in how eBay was working to drive traffic back to local retailers. Following the presentation, Congressman Matheson met with approximately 60 team members from the Draper office in a town hall-style meeting and answered employee questions ranging from, “What is Congress doing to help small business?” to “What are you doing to help eBay?” The event was a tremendous success and an enlightening experience for both the employees and the Congressman.
Congressman Matheson has been a champion for federal policies that are important to the eBay Inc. family. In particular, encouraging small business growth is a priority for the Congressman. He has supported eBay efforts to protect small online retailers from Internet sales tax burdens, and has cosponsored H.Res. 95, a resolution in the House of Representatives that states any new Internet sales tax law should include a robust exemption for small businesses. Additionally, he has championed legislation that would preserve a robust secondary market for ticket sales.
