Today in the U.S. Senate, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) introduced a bipartisan resolution “Supporting the Preservation of Internet Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses.” This resolution, numbered S. Res. 309, clearly expresses opposition to states imposing new tax burdens on small businesses on the Internet, including requirements to collect and remit sales taxes for out-of-state online purchases.

Joining Senator Wyden and Senator Ayotte in support of the resolution are Senator Jeff Merkely (D-OR), Senator Mark Begich (D-AK), Senator Dean Heller (R-NV), and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH).

eBay Vice President of Global Government Relations and Deputy General Counsel Tod Cohen applauded Senators Wyden and Ayotte and their colleagues for their “bipartisan leadership in defending small online retailers who are creating jobs and helping move the US economy forward.” Cohen added, “This resolution recognizes the bipartisan support for shielding small businesses expanding on the Internet from facing new tax barriers to success.”
