Last week, the Agricultural Retailers Association (AGA) released a press statement expressing the group’s concern with the so-called Marketplace Fairness Act. The AGA represents agricultural retailers and distributors all across the United States, many of whom are small and medium size businesses that sell their products online.
In a letter sent to the Members of the House Judiciary Committee, the AGA explained that the administrative and compliance costs associated with the Marketplace Fairness Act would be a major deterrent for agricultural retailers currently involved in e-commerce and it will also likely stifle innovative agribusiness expansion online. Due to these costs and new burdens, the AGA now joins a growing list of companies and organizations that are opposed to the Marketplace Fairness Act as currently written.
