Last week Congressman Matt Salmon (AZ – 05), Chandler City Council members Jack Sellers and Rick Heumann, and other officials from the Chandler Chamber of Commerce visited the PayPal Chandler Operations Center to meet with managing VP Karen Marshall and her leadership team to discuss issues of importance to the company at a state and local level.
The meeting provided a fantastic opportunity for our local executives to interact with public policy makers on issues impacting eBay, PayPal and our customers. Federal issues discussed included Net Neutrality and the Marketplace Fairness Act, while local issues such as transportation and development in the City of Chandler were also discussed. The meeting also gave eBay an opportunity to thank the Congressman for his support and leadership in protecting internet-enabled small businesses by opposing the Marketplace Fairness Act and the additional and costly compliance burdens it would impose upon eBay’s small sellers. Because of Congressional members like Congressman Salmon, the Internet continues to be one of the last bastions for small businesses to successfully operate and compete with larger enterprises. It is our hope that voices like his will continue play a decisive role in the debate surrounding internet taxation issues.
