House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) got an up close look at the future of commerce Friday during a visit to eBay Inc.'s headquarters in San Jose. Hoyer took a tour of the eBay Inc. Commerce Innovation Showcase with the company's Government Relations team, including Vice President & Deputy General Counsel for Government Relations Tod Cohen. Tod illustrated eBay Inc.'s vision of "Connected Commerce" and how the company is changing the way people shop online and in brick and mortar stores.
The Congressman saw first-hand how eBay and PayPal enable businesses in his district and around the world to use Internet and mobile technology tools to grow their business. Hoyer was able to see this vision put into practice with a hands-on demonstration from the eBay team in the Commerce Innovation Showcase. During the demonstration, Hoyer witnessed how eBay Inc. technologies facilitate quick and secure transactions, for both Internet-enabled and brick and mortar stores.
The Congressman's visit was a great opportunity to showcase how eBay Inc. and the Internet facilitate commerce for retailers, big and small. The House Democratic Whip said he was committed to supporting the ability of small businesses to grow, create jobs, and compete on a global scale. As the second most powerful Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives, Hoyer is at the forefront of crafting federal legislation that will facilitate this new era of commerce in America.
