This week eBay sellers and employees from across the state of Utah arrived at the State Capitol for the annual eBay Fly-In Day in Utah. As expected, legislators were very welcoming to their constituents and receptive to working on the current issues affecting small businesses. With a very full agenda in the last two weeks of the legislative session, and issues of importance to eBay still very much in play, it was a critical time to meet with legislators on Internet sales tax and alternative energy legislation.
The eBay Fly-In Day was an opportunity to showcase eBay’s presence in - and contribution to - the state of Utah, and the real businesses and jobs being created by eBay sellers. As well as being a valuable opportunity to inform policymakers about the company, the fly-in was also an opportunity to discuss the important issue of Internet Sales Tax. Our sellers used their personal small business stories to illustrate how eBay-enabled small businesses are a powerful force fostering economic growth in communities across the country. Along with eBay staff, the sellers explained how pending online sales tax legislation in Utah, like SB 182 (Harper), could harm local Utah businesses.
We would like to thank the eBay sellers and employees who took time out of their busy schedules to attend this important event, and thank the Representatives and Senators who met with us. We look forward to another successful fly-in in 2017!
