Earlier this month, more than 180 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia attended a one day workshop hosted by the US-ASEAN Business Alliance for Competitive SMEs in Kuala Lumpur that encourages the use of Ecommerce to export globally. eBay Inc. is an active member of the US-ASEAN Business Alliance and representatives from eBay Marketplaces and PayPal highlighted how SMEs can leverage technology to participate in the global market.
"The United States supports the development of small businesses in Asean given their importance to foster economic growth in the region," said the US Ambassador to Malaysia, Joseph Yun, in his opening remarks. "It is therefore important that these businesses take advantage of learning new technologies from multi-national companies, giving them the competitive edge and opportunities to enter new markets, regionally and globally." A supporter of Ecommerce and a constant advocate of eBay Inc. in Malaysia, the CEO of SME Corporation, Dato’ Hafsah Hashim said, “Not only will ecommerce save time in conducting transactions, it also increases the efficiency of small business operations and allow them to provide services to a larger base of consumers”.
With 145M active users worldwide, eBay is the only place where you can get instant access to a ready base of customers globally. PayPal, the world’s global payment partner of choice, has the best technologically driven risk model to prevent and deter fraudulent transactions, thereby allowing SMEs to expand their businesses globally with a peace of mind.
The Ecommerce-focused workshop was one of a series of workshops held across Southeast Asia and is sponsored by the United States through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and large US firms such as eBay Inc., Baker & McKenzie, Google and UPS, in partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as part of the US-ASEAN cooperation in boosting the competitiveness of ASEAN SMEs.
