Brian Bieron, eBay Inc.’s Senior Director of Government Relations and Global Politics, recently spoke at tech event hosted by the Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Services (CIC) of Caxias do Sul, Brazil. It was part of the CIC’s 5th Forum of Innovation and Business Intelligence and was focused on how technology is the changing the nature of globalization in the 21st Century.
Bieron explained how traditionally small businesses can reach consumers beyond their locality when they leverage Internet and technology. This phenomena is creating an emerging model of parallel trade , where a merchant of any size can access consumers anywhere in the world. Bieron added that tech-enabled commerce is not replacing traditional trade , but it compliments one another. Tech enabled trade increases opportunities that have important economic and social impacts on not only the individuals who engage in the activity, but their families and their communities.
