Last week, eBay Seller Rodney Adams, owner of Outdoor Power Deals, hosted Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (R/KS-02) at his business facility and discussed the serious impact that current Internet sales tax proposals would have on his small business. Rodney, a native of Tonganoxie, Kansas, started Outdoor Power Deals in 2001 and decided to expand into online sales to grow his business. During the tour with Congresswoman Jenkins, who serves as Vice-Chair in her party’s leadership, Rodney discussed how the Marketplace Fairness Act would negatively impact his business and other small web-enabled businesses in Kansas, by forcing them to collect and remit sales taxes for over 9,600 taxing jurisdictions across the United States. With only a handful of employees, Rodney has been able to successfully grow his business over the years while creating jobs in his community. However, he’s concerned that the Marketplace Fairness Act may force him to downsize his business.
