Hong Kong’s eBay commercial exporters sell to an average to 57 countries, the 2nd highest in Asia, revealed in a report released last week in Hong Kong (November 19) titled Commerce 3.0: Enabling Hong Kong Entrepreneurs.
The report showed key export destinations for Hong Kong eBay commercial exporters were: United States; United Kingdom; Australia; Germany and Canada.
The report outlined several recommendations to further grow Internet enabled trade including:
- Extension of free trade beyond Hong Kong;
- Improving the regulatory framework for stored valued cards will further enhance opportunities for eCommerce and provide greater clarity for businesses operating in Hong Kong;
- Faster customs clearance;
- Investment for Hong Kong start ups;
- Supporting SME’s through the Export Marketing Fund (EMF). The Fund should expand the scope of marketing as it applies to eCommerce businesses, for example advertising goes beyond online advertisements but may include social media promotion, search and related fees associated with online marketplaces to be able to reach a global audience, some of these marketing activities have been broadened with Internet enabled trade.
The launch was addressed by Michelle Leung, eBay Hong Kong; and eBay seller Joseph who sells everything from toy models, cosmetics, clothing and shoes to household appliances, auto parts and pet supplies, to 176 countries.
The launch received significant local media coverage including PCMarket, hkitnews, techritual, cnyes, Hong Kong Economic Times, Apple Daily, and many other publications.
