This week the Internet Association released an economic report conducted by Harris Interactive via Google Hangout. The study’s findings showcase the economic impact of Internet-enabled, part-time businesses. Key findings of the study included:
- Internet enabled part-time businesses employ roughly 6.6 million workers
- 9 out of 10 part-time business owners rely on the Internet for their business. They generate about $141 billion in annual revenue to overall GDP
- The Internet accelerates the capacity of part-time businesses by increasing efficiency 86%, expanding productivity 82% and saving money for 78%.
The Internet Association also created an infographic to share the study's findings.
eBay seller Kathy Terrill of New York City Fitness Family and Finds participated in the Google Hangout alongside a part-time Etsy seller to provide a firsthand account of the study’s findings. Kathy, an actress from New York City, explained how her part-time eBay business keeps her income steady and her schedule flexible. In addition to her acting career and her part-time business, Kathy runs a very successful Facebook group of other eBay sellers.
