Last week, Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) sent a letter to the leaders of the Senate Finance Committee calling for any tax reform proposal to keep the Internet free from burdensome tax requirements and restrictions, including new Internet sales taxes. The Senate Finance Committee is in the process of determining their priorities for comprehensive tax reform this Fall and have called on Senators to express their priorities for what should and should not be included in the final reform package.
As an ardent advocate for Internet freedom and small business growth and development, Senator Ayotte renewed her opposition to Internet sales tax legislation and requested that it not be included in the tax reform package. In addition, the Senator expressed support for making permanent the current moratorium on Internet access taxes, which would prevent state and local governments from imposing new taxes on Internet access, and prohibit any multiple or discriminatory taxes on e-commerce.
