On April 19^th, a group of 18 taxpayer advocacy groups and conservative think tanks sent a letter to all 100 Senate offices expressing opposition to the Internet sales tax bill that will likely be voted on next week on the Senate floor.  In their letter the groups argue that the bill could cause serious damage to electronic and Interstate commerce by:

1. allowing some state tax enforcement agents to impose their tax laws on businesses located in other states;
2. disadvantage online retail by creating more onerous sales tax standards than brick and mortar retail; and
3. burden small business retailers that use the Internet to compete against big retailers.
