Last week PayPal and eBay Inc. state government relations staff sponsored an exhibitors booth at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) annual Legislative Summit discuss the various ways that PayPal can help state government, legislative campaigns and non-profits improve fundraising efforts and to improve the ways that they pay and get paid, especially with PayPal Here's dongle based mobile payments app. By walking interested legislators and non-profit staff through mock transactions we were able to show them how easy it would be to process credit and debit card payments.
While mobile payments has taken off in the past few years, with PayPal processing $14B in mobile payments in 2012, many people are still unaware of how easy and secure it is to initiate a mobile payment. By demonstrating the process to many of the legislators at our booth we were able to show them how easy it was to complete a mobile transaction and integrate the technology into their campaigns. In fact, several were so impressed with the technology that we signed them up at the booth so they could begin using PayPal Here immediately for fundraising purposes. Additionally, the booth and demonstrations gave us an opportunity to familiarize legislators with an increasing more common phenomena - making payments using one's phone - so that as they go back to their home states they can begin to contemplate how mobile payments can improve the transaction process for merchants and consumers alike and what needs to be done to improve the outdated regulatory models that they operate within.
