This morning, Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) of the House Judiciary Committee released seven basic principles related to the collection of Internet sales taxes. The principles are intended to guide future discussions in Congress on how to address the issue of Internet sales taxes without overly burdening online businesses and stifling Internet and mobile commerce.
Brian Bieron, Executive Director of Global Public Policy at eBay Inc., made the following statement today in response to Rep. Goodlatte’s newly introduced principles on remote sales tax.
“eBay is very encouraged that the remote sales tax principles released today by Chairman Goodlatte address concerns that we have raised on behalf of our small business community. The principles create a sensible starting place to develop legislation that considers the interests of many stakeholders. We appreciate all the effort Chairman Goodlatte and his staff have put into developing these principles, and we look forward to continued partnership on this important issue.”
