While standing in line waiting to check out with a mobile device, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) saw first-hand how eBay technologies are revolutionizing the retail experience, both online and offline. But Rep. Waxman was not standing in line at his neighborhood grocery store or at a Capitol Hill coffee shop. He was participating in one of several checkout scenarios on display in the eBay Inc. Commerce Innovation Showcase at the company’s San Jose Headquarters.
During his interactive tour with members of eBay Inc.’s Government Relations team Friday, Rep. Waxman saw how eBay Inc. enables businesses of all sizes in his district and around the world to reach new customers and markets.
As Ranking Member on the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Waxman is an influential leader in Congress on a variety of issues important to the Internet. During his time in Congress, he has been a strong supporter of customer privacy and data security protections. Given his leadership in privacy policy, the eBay Inc. team used Rep. Waxman’s visit to explain how the company fosters trust with its users through transparent and reliable protection of their personal information.
Rep. Waxman’s visit provided an opportunity for him to see how his work in Congress is intersecting with the technological innovation that is occurring in Silicon Valley. Moving forward, eBay Inc. is excited to continue its work with Rep. Waxman ensuring consumers are protected and small businesses are empowered in not only California but around the world.
