Last week in a blog post, the Computers & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), an organization for a wide range of companies in the computer, Internet, information technology, and telecommunications industries, applauded Chairman Goodlatte for convening the hearing to explore alternatives to the so-called Marketplace Fairness Act.
CCIA, along with a number of tech groups, have expressed concerns with the Marketplace Fairness Act and how it would impact the growth of the tech sector and the businesses that rely on the Internet and digital marketplace. In the blog post, Ken Kurokawa explains, “The MFA clearly fails the test on Tech Neutrality by seeking to address a perceived “imbalance” in tax treatment between physical stores and remote sellers by overcompensating into a new imbalance by placing a much larger compliance burden on remote sellers.” CCIA applauded the Chairman for exploring alternatives to the Marketplace Fairness Act and for starting a meaningful debate in Congress on this important issue.
