This week, David London, Senior Director & Head of State Government Relation for eBay Inc, participated in a panel discussion at the first annual SHARE Conference in San Francisco. The SHARE conference brought together entrepreneurs, small business owners, policy makers and business leaders to discuss and exchange ideas on the changing landscape of the sharing economy.
David participated in the panel discussion entitled, “From Reactive to Proactive: Strategies for Engaging Regulators and Governments on Sharing Economy Issues”. There he discussed how eBay Inc. has dealt with incumbents who have tried to use the public policy process in order to stop the growth of the eBay small business community. He talked about how sharing economy companies that are threatened by the disintermediation they cause to traditional business models can hopefully learn from similar experiences eBay has gone through throughout the years. He talked about how eBay has been able to educate regulators and policy makers and how we’ve been able to mobilize the eBay community to engage in the public policy process . David also discussed how sharing economy companies and entrepreneurs can proactively work with policy makers in their local communities by setting up meetings, organizing local campaigns and employing strategic grassroots strategies.
