Dean Nelson (L), eBay Inc.'s VP of Data Center Strategy and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg
eBay Inc. was honored to recently host His Royal Highness Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg and Minister Etienne Schneider at eBay Inc.’s Salt Lake City data center facility. Having expressed a strong interest in the application of fuel cell technology, Dean Nelson, eBay Inc.’s VP of Data Center Strategy, took the Crown Prince and delegation on a tour of eBay’s state-of-the-art data center to discuss our use of Bloom Energy Servers™ as the center’s primary, on-site power source.
Through the use of this fuel cell technology, eBay Inc. is increasing efficiency, lessening their environmental impact (produces approximately 49% less CO2 emissions than the first-phase data center) and boosting the performance of their platforms by reducing the risk of outages. This, along with an agreement for off-site waste heat recovery, is helping eBay surpass its goal of sourcing at least 8% of eBay Inc.’s energy from cleaner sources by 2015.
eBay Inc. greatly values its relationship with the Crown Prince and ongoing close cooperation with the Luxembourg authorities. We are thankful for his interest and the opportunity to spend some time talking about our use of these innovative technologies.
