eBay seller, Rebecca Leigh, owner of Textile Magic, recently participated in a House Small Business Committee roundtable discussion hosted by Ranking Member Nydia Velazquez (D-NY). Ranking Member Velazquez called the roundtable to discuss how best to enact tax policies that promote development and investment for small businesses. In addition to Rebecca, participants included industry small business associations and Democratic members of the committee.
Attending Small Business Committee Members were able to hear directly from Rebecca about how an online sales tax would impact small technology-enabled retailers like her. Rebecca has one employee and together they use eBay to reach customers all over the country and the globe. She explained to the group that the internet is a place small businesses go to grow and reach new markets so they can compete effectively, but current online sales tax legislation would compromise her internet business.
