eBay hosted a South Korean delegation consisting of trade officials, academics, and experts at our headquarters in San Jose, California. The delegation was organized by Minseop Kim, Deputy Director, Distribution & Logistics Division of South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE). Stuart Reichenbach, Senior Director of Shipping at eBay presented on ecommerce issues related to global shipping and logistics. Elizabeth Oblinger of eBay’s Government Relations team spoke about eBay’s strong presence in South Korea and the importance of cross-border trade and increasing exports from South Korea. Minju Lee of eBay’s Finance team also joined the meeting and translated.
eBay Korea operates the Auction, Gmarket, and G9 platforms in Korea. Auction was established in 1998 as Korea’s first online auction site and has since become a leader in South Korea e-commerce. Gmarket was acquired by eBay in 2009 and is now South Korea’s number one e-commerce site. In addition, eBay operates a series of “Smile” programs aimed at providing safe, convenient, and seamless shopping experiences for shoppers in South Korea. Overall, South Korea is eBay’s second largest marketplace behind the U.S.
eBay would like to thank the delegation for visiting us in San Jose during their Silicon Valley tour. We look forward to working with them on how to best support our South Korean sellers as they continue to export and engage in cross-border trade globally.
