The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) new Development Matters website recently featured an article by Hanne Melin, eBay Director of Global Public Policy, titled, “The Online Platform, Trade, MSMEs and Women: Lessons from eBay towards user-driven economic empowerment”. The article contends that the transformation of world trade through internet-enabled platforms into an economic activity inclusive of the smallest enterprises and firms from less economically advanced areas also provides a tool for strengthening women as economic actors.

This week eBay's Kristen Foster addressed a joint initiative of the US Embassy in Singapore and Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a Third Country Training Program in Singapore. The focus was on SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) ecosystems and benefits of ecommerce in enabling SMEs. More than 40 government representatives from throughout ASEAN attended the private Roundtable session.

The International In-House Counsel Journal, the world’s leading independent journal written exclusively by commercial lawyers, has published an article authored by Hanne Melin, eBay Director of Global Public Policy, titled, “Platform-Enabled Commerce: Unlocking Economic Opportunity Through Independent Internationalization of Small Enterprises”.
This week, Hanne Melin, eBay Director of Global Public Policy, spoke at the Basel Peace Forum, which is intended to inspire new and unconventional ideas for peacebuilding. She joined other leading personalities and decision-makers from business, diplomacy, academia, and civil society to discuss key aspects of war and violence across sectors and how to find new ways of overcoming them. Hanne presented at a workshop focused on Artificial Intelligence and virtual platforms and how they could potentially be used for short-term and long-term peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
2016 was a busy year for eBay’s Kristen Foster, eBay Director of Government Relations for Australia, New Zealand, Japan & Southeast Asia. She led eBay’s envoy participation in trade missions throughout Australasia, South East Asia and an annual APAC American Chambers of Commerce “Doorknock” to Washington, DC. All of these activities focused on leveraging ecommerce to benefit SMEs and the positive impact that cross border trade, underpinned by free trade agreements, has on local and global economies, jobs and growth.
