Why do we do what we do?

eBay's purpose is to pioneer new communities around the world, built on commerce, sustained by trust, and inspired by opportunity. We engage beyond the walls of our business to create a better ecommerce environment for our community. By providing our customers with a voice in major policy discussions we can collectively create industry-wide policy change. Learn the latest about our policy priorities, including SHOP SAFE and the US Postal Service, here.

SHOP SAFE State of Play

Many of you in our SBAN community have been actively involved in combating the SHOP SAFE Act, which was recently reintroduced in the US House of Representatives by Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Congressman Jerold Nadler (D-NY). While SHOP SAFE claims to be about preventing counterfeit sales, it is really about letting big brands have control over who gets to sell their merchandise. Worst of all, it would require marketplaces like eBay to permanently ban sellers after a brand flags 3 of their listings as being allegedly counterfeit.

eBay strongly opposes this legislation and supports policies that would actually stop counterfeiters without harming legitimate sellers and small businesses.

If you are interested in getting involved in the fight against SHOP SAFE, please let us know.

US Postal Service

This spring, several senators signed onto a letter to put pressure on the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) recent announcement of postal price increases. The senators have expressed concern over USPS leadership, particularly Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, citing unsustainable price hikes and declining service quality. As part of the Postmaster’s Delivering for America (DFA) 10-year plan, which includes significant changes to the postal system.

Despite previous financial assistance from Congress, USPS continues to implement changes that negatively impact consumers and small businesses reliant on its services. The senators urge the USPS Board of Governors to intervene and prevent further harm to Americans and businesses.

The GR team is consistently advocating to improve US Postal Service for our small business community.
