For months Canadian small businesses, including many eBay sellers, have had to deal with the uncertainty caused by the ongoing negotiations between the Canada Post Corporation and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. This uncertainty has forced many Canadian small businesses to make other arrangements for the shipment of goods, which has negatively impacted these businesses’ productivity and competitiveness. It’s time for this situation to end.

This week eBay had the privilege of hosting a delegation from the European Parliament and the European Internet Forum (EIF) at our headquarters in San Jose, California.
Last week, Andrea Stairs, Managing Director of eBay Canada, wrote a letter to Deepak Chopra, President & CEO of Canada Post, and Mike Palecek, National President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), expressing eBay’s concern with the uncertainty resulting from the ongoing Canada Post/CUPW labor negotiations.
Managing Director of eBay Canada Andrea Stairs joined the host of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s “The House” this weekend to discuss the issue of Canada’s exceptionally low de minimis. De minimis is the threshold below which low-value shipments can enter Canada exempt from burdensome customs processes, duties and taxes.
